“Puccini by William Friedkin”
Federico Salvetti, Lucchese film director and co-founder of the production company Kalispéra, developed and directed Puccini by William Friedkin, his second documentary that followed Bye Bakken where he described the North Dakota oil boom. Salvetti’s latest work is a testament to the ongoing and fruitful collaboration with the Giacomo Puccini Foundation and the Teatro del Giglio of Lucca and was filmed in 2016, when the great American director William Friedkin was the Guest of Honor at the Lucca Film Festival. Kalispéra is the executive producer of the documentary.
“I consider Il Trittico the peak of my work as a director”, states Friedkin on camera at the beginning of the documentary dedicated to the relationship between the American Maestro and Giacomo Puccini. A passionate declaration of love that embodies the powerful emotions experienced by William Friedkin when, during the 2016 edition of the Lucca Film Festival, he was able to retrace the steps and relive the memories linked to Giacomo Puccini’s life and works by visiting iconic venues such as the Teatro del Giglio, the Church of San Paolino and the Cathedral of S. Martino. A documentary that shines the light on Friedkin’s unprecedented and precious reflections. Two Maestros who meet on a stunning and extraordinary set: that of the city of Lucca.
