Peter Greenaway at the ninth edition of the Lucca Film Festival

First Italian retrospective dedicated to the Hungarian director Benedek Fliegauf

the painter, writer and director Peter Greenaway It’s going to be the special guest of the ninth edition of the Lucca Film Festival, the international event of films which this year takes place between September 23 and 27 in the Tuscan capital between Central Cinema , auditorium of the Foundation Bml and Cinema Italy .The festival is conceived and organized by Vi (s) tanova. The event is sponsored by the City and Province of Lucca, with the support of the Tuscany Region and the sponsorship of Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio and Foundazione Banca del Monte di Lucca.

TRIBUTE TO PETER GREENAWAY

The festival, in its ninth year, continues the research taking care of the avant-garde of independent cinema (young emerging European authors, artists known from critics) as well as of the personalities that have made the greatness of the past cinema . This edition introduces a tribute to Peter Greenaway, one of the most important filmmakers of contemporary British cinema. Are going to be screened five films, the most meaningful of his career as a director. It will be Greenaway himself to inaugurate the Festival on Monday 23 of September , at the Central Cinema (starting 20.30) with the screening of “Goltzius and the Pelican Company” (2012). Of the director will be screened: “Drowning by Numbers” (1988); “The Belly of the Architect” (1987); “The Last Tempest” (1991) and “The Zoo of Venus” (1985).Greenaway will already be in Lucca on 21 and 22 September to present the multimedia work “The Towers / Lucca Hubris” with which will animate the facade of the church of San Francesco, just restored for a project supported by Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio of Lucca , realized with the collaboration of the Lucca Film Festival and produced by Change Performing Arts with the collaboration of Milan ALDES (in press folder you will find more information).

TRIBUTE TO YOUNG FILMMAKER BENEDEK FLIEGAUF

The retrospective will be dedicated to the Hungarian director Benedek Fliegauf (1974), considered in Budapest a prominent figure of the new generation of Hungarian filmmakers. Fliegauf will be in Lucca to present his film.

TRIBUTE TO STAN BRAKHAGE

This year the festival dedicates a retrospective, 10 years after his death, to Brakhage, the U.S. director, considered one of the greatest and most influential experimental filmmakers of the twentieth century. The tribute includes the screening of her film “Dog Star Man”, and a brief portrait made by Pip Chodorov just before the artist’s death.

TRIBUTE TO Antonì Padros, first in Italy

Antonì Padros it’s going to be one of the guests of the ninth edition of the festival, master of Spanish experimental cinema, seven films which will be screened between films and and shorts, all shown nationally for the first time. The Spanish director will meet the public during the screenings.

SPECIAL EVENTS

One of the expected special events is the meeting with the director Adolfo Arrietta, considered a pioneer of independent cinema in Spain and France and the screening of his latest films. Some of the projections will also be “The Age is” to Spephen Dwoskin (2012); “A Visit to Stan Brakhage” by Pip Chodorov and “Holy Motors by Leos Carax.

AUDIODOC

During the festival will be held the first edition of Audiodocumentari in the city, a series of audiodocumentaries – ideated and curated by the Cultural Association Officine Abaco and by the QZR Studio in collaboration with Lucca Film Festival, Rai Radio 3, Audiodoc , the City and the Province of Lucca. There are going to be eight tracks followed by as many roundtables and two workshops that will allow to discover the audiodocumentary and four stories dealing with a deep look in social. The protagonists of the exhibition will be Jonathan Zenti with ” Escape from Victory” , a work on gambling realized by a group of former players; Bellucci Ornella and ” Ilva ,there once was a revolt ” story in direct of the dramatic days that have awakened Taranto and Italy concerning the steel mill owned by the Riva family ; Flavia Piccinni with ” Italy -Romania : travel with carers ” ; Angelo Van Shaik and ” The Golden Trumpet ” about the years in prison of Chat Beker in Lucca.

LUCCA CINEMA EFFECT – COLLATERAL EVENT

The project Lucca Cinema Effect provides a film set blue screen set up for the whole duration of the festival (in via San Paolini, 5) where everyone will have the possibility to go and recite some famous phrases of the films. The ones that are going to participate will get a clip of the film and will be able to take advantage of discounts in some places of Lucca that have joined the project and will be devoted for the occasion to films that have made the history of cinema.

INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM COMPETITION

Great international showcase at the Lucca Film Festival with the short film competition (over 30 short films from many nations including Russia, Australia, Malaysia, Mexico) which have participated in the most important festivals of the world (Venice Film Festival, Quinzane of Cannes, Toronto Independent Film Festival, New York Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam). The short films, divided into two sections – Experimental and Fiction / Documentary, will compete for the best work of their class.
