Lucca Film Festival – Europa Cinema 2019
The screening will be a performative event that will guide the film through red carpets and surprises
The Italian premiere of The Curse of La Llorona by Michael Chaves, starring Linda Cardellini, Raymond Cruz, Patricia Velásquez and Marisol Ramirez, will be one of the special events of the 2019 edition of the Lucca Film Festival & Europa Cinema, taking place from 13th to 21st April in Lucca and Viareggio. The film will be released in Italy on 17th April by Warner Bros.
The film will be screened on 13th April at the Cinema Astra (Piazza del Giglio 7, Lucca) in Anteprime (Previews), the section of spectacular films in Italian premiere. It is not going to be a simple screening, but a real performative event starting from the red carpet – set up for the occasion in an immersive way: audio effects, projections and play of light in a horror atmosphere – and leading the spectator right into the cinema, where there will be “surprise events involving the audience, ranging from unexpected visits to appearances.” “The premiere of a Warner Bros film – said Nicola Borrelli, President of the Festival – is an important event for us, since it confirms the international nature of the festival. Moreover, it allows us to organize a special presentation, perfectly in line with the spirit of the festival, where the spectator will be completely immersed in the film’s universe.”
In the film, set in the 70s in Los Angeles, the protagonist is La Llorona, a woman who wanders into the night in search of children. A social worker does not take seriously the unsettling warning of a mother, suspected of having assaulted her children. Soon, the mother, along with her kids, will be sucked in a terrifying supernatural world. The only hope to survive to the deadly rage of La Llorona could be a disillusioned priest and his mystical practice to drive evil away, in which fear meets faith. Beware his chilling moan… she will not stop in front of anything in order to draw you into the darkness. Because there is no peace for her anguish, there is no mercy for her soul. No one can escape the curse of La Llorona.
